How can I get scholarship?
Posted by Uniguru Editor to Scholarships | February 08th 2012
The number of students who wish to pursue higher studies abroad is increasing with every year. But with studying abroad comes the questions related to the cost and how expensive it would be. Most students who come from affluent families have no issues with the cost, while others start reconsidering their decisions for want of financial assistance. There are some students who take educational loan, go abroad pursue their studies, work part time and stick it out by paying back their loan. The percentage of such students is very minimal when you look at the overall number of students.
The only other option that students who dream of going abroad have is to obtain Scholarship. Now, even though most colleges offer aid and scholarship, there are certain rules and qualifying conditions that control this scenario. Not every student who applies for scholarship is granted and sometimes it will be only for a certain percentage of the fees.
Apart from offering financial support, scholarship has other benefits as well. Employers are quite impressed with students who have studied with scholarship from a particular university. It shows that the student was focused, driven and keen on pursuing their dreams, which will reflect on their working style.
The Process:
Application- The first step in any admission process would be to fill out an application form. Make sure to provide all necessary documents that will help in processing your application form. An incomplete form will lead to an instant reject. Therefore, take your time, do some research, take advice and guidance from those who are already abroad or who have completed their course and then send in your application forms. You will have to mention the courses, the list of colleges and provide documents related to your previous education, family background and financial situation as well.
For scholarship – Different colleges and universities have different policies when it comes to Scholarships. Some cover entire education fees, while others will cover accommodation, food and other charges as well. When doing your research on colleges, read up on scholarship programs, and how to apply for the same. Some colleges might insist on specific documents, while others might need a letter from the bank. Be ready with whatever document that has been mentioned on the website. Take guidance from a career counselor or where to apply to increase your chances of scholarship.
University of Abertay Dundee offers a fixed scholarship of about £2000. City University offers 41 different scholarships, some of which cover tuition fees and maintenance grant, while others offer a fixed amount as scholarship. it could be between £1000 to £10000 or 25% of the fees, and so on.
University of Kent again is a University that has quite a range of aid programs. Some scholarships are for £10000 per year but for 1 year only, while others offer £4000 for a year of education. One other university you can consider is Institute of Education, University of London that has over 12 aid options.
So, depending on which college you are applying to, you can look at the Scholarship options and see what works best for you when sending in your request form.
