Posted by Uniguru Editor to College Application | February 17th 2012
Studying abroad is a serious decision made after hours of deliberation. But once that is made, it is not smooth sailing therein, unless you have all the necessary information. The next step is scrutinizing the various universities and colleges, the country you wish to go to and the courses offered. All these need to match with your dreams and goals, before you can proceed any further. When you zero in on the country, say for example, you decide to go to UK to pursue higher studies, you need to do some ground work and analyze the various programs, the colleges, the fees structure, the duration and various other details. But on top of all these is the University’s ranking in the charts.
Yes, it is important to choose a college or university that is ranked among the top. Only then are you assured good quality education, and future career prospects. Just like in India, in other parts of the world too importance is given to the college you have passed out from. If you are from an unheard of college, then your chances of landing a good job are that much slimmer. Therefore, analyze and study the university rankings from various sites and then weigh your options.
Some of the top ranking colleges in UK
You could look at applying to the EC English Language Schools that has a facility across 9 locations in UK. Depending on your preference, you can choose from London, Cambridge, Brighton, San Francisco, San Diego, New York, Boston, Malta and Cape Town. It is the ideal place to go if you are keen on pursuing a course in English and improving your language.
Another option would be the South Thames College London (International). The college has a name for the students who pass out of there, especially the international students. The college sees over 20,000 students every year, and offers a wide range of courses ranging from Arts to business and even Engineering across under graduate and post graduate levels.
Similarly the University of St Andrews located in Scotland offers courses that provide extensive programs in Arts, History, Biology, English and Finance, to name a few. They have an office in New Delhi where candidates can go for counseling and information.
Apart from these, some of the other colleges you could consider applying to in UK are Barnet College, Blake Hall, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, BPP University College (Business School) or maybe the Bournville College.
All the best!
