Course summary This course provides students with an advanced understanding of key concepts and issues in professional ethics. The course will appeal to professional people who want to understand both the roots of the ethic appropriate to their own profession and the wider social and ethical context in which it is located. The diploma may lead to higher degree study in professional ethics or related areas of study. Students who complete the postgraduate diploma should: develop a sensitivity to ethical dimensions of practice in their own, and related professions; demonstrate a substantial knowledge of one or more areas in the study of professional ethics; understand the theoretical sources of the key concepts in these areas of study; develop a sophisticated understanding of the application of these concepts in their professional field or study area; develop research and analytical skills enabling further study at higher degree levels. Students who complete the postgraduate diploma may be eligible for the MA or PhD or a masters by coursework.
International admissions requirements Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree or equivalent in a cognate discipline; or a Graduate Certificate in Professional Ethics or a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Ethics; or they can also have an undergraduate degree and at least two years of documented relevant experience in professional, public sector or business activities. Interviews may be conducted to assess the applicant's capacity to deal with the theoretical content of the course. International applicants must fulfill the following English language requirements: IELTS (academic English only) score of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL (paper-based test) score of 577 plus TWE 4.5; TOEFL (computer-based test) score of 233 plus 4.5 essay rating; TOEFL (internet-based test) score of 79 (writing 21, speaking 18, reading 13 and listening 13); Pearson Test of English (academic) score of 58-64 inclusive and no communicative skill below 50.
