Course summary This course provides students with an opportunity to carry out sustained and independent research. The thesis should demonstrate a critical application of specialist knowledge and skills in a chosen area of study and make an original contribution to the discipline. Masters by research programs are available in three forms: thesis only, advanced seminars and shorter thesis and thesis and creative work.
International admissions requirements Applicants should have completed a four year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree with a research component or equivalent in the appropriate area of study or closely related area, with an Honours thesis result at least equivalent to an H2A (75 per cent) and an overall Honours result at least equivalent to an H2B (70 per cent) at the University of Melbourne. Applicants without the required Honours degree may still be considered with significant fourth year, masters or postgraduate diploma research experience. Research experience must also be relevant to the proposed topic of research. International applicants must fulfill the following English language requirements: IELTS (academic English only) score of 7.0 (written 7.0 with no band less than 6.0); TOEFL (paper-based test) score of 600 plus TWE 5.0; TOEFL (computer-based test) score of 250 plus 5.0 essay rating; TOEFL (internet-based test) score of 94 (writing 27, speaking 18, reading 13 and listening 13); Pearson Test of English (academic) score of 65 and written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50.
