Course summary This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to understand the processes of language learning and development, to develop theoretically motivated language teaching curricula, and to improve their effectiveness as teachers of English as a second or foreign language, or more generally to further their understanding of the way in which language affects and is affected by the social and cultural environment. Career opportunities include teaching English as a second language; research in applied linguistics. English grammar and structure specialization units: structure of English; foundations of linguistics; language and meaning; introduction to syntax; issues of bilingualism and bilingual education; cross-cultural communication; academic writing and introduction to phonology and morphology.

International admissions requirements Students must have a Bachelor degree in a related course area or equivalent recognized prior learning. English language proficiency - TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): A score of 550 with a TWE (Test of Written English) of 4.5 in the paper-based test or a score of 213 with a 4.5 Essay Rating in the computer-based test or an internet test overall score of 93 with no sub-test score less than 21 and IELTS (International English Language Testing System): a minimum score of 6.5, with no sub-test score less than 6.0.
