Overall experience
I am from Beijing and studied at the Bejing college of Financial and commerce from 2004 to 2007 gaining my Diploma in Tourism and Hotel Management.
Your study experience
The help and support which I received from my tutors was something I remember well. I say nothing was ever too much trouble and that their encouragement and assistance was a great help. While studying the Bachelor of Tourism Management I was employed as a cashier at Chapman's restaurant in the Heritage hotel and as a Chinese speaking guide/waitress on the Lakeland Queen. I am now employed in Waiariki's International Centre as an International Student Advisor which involves marketing Waiariki to China and providing pastoral care for Chinese students.
Job prospects
I chose to pursue a career in tourism management as the tourism industry appealed to me greatly. I believe the rapidly developing Chinese tourism industry will have enormous benefits for New Zealand. I also believe that being an English speaking Chinese member of the tourism industry in this country will benefit both the local and inbound tour operators. The BCFC has an agreement with Waiariki Institute of Technology whereby students can study in China and have their qualification cross-credited toward a New Zealand qualification. I had the Diploma in Tourism and Hotel Management cross-credited enabling me to enter the third year of the Bachelor of Tourism Management at Waiariki.
