Having spent 3 years at the Beijing College of Finance (BCFC) studying hotel management I decided to know more about the tourism industry. After all, the hotel sector is just one sector of the tourism industry and I felt I needed to understand the whole industry.

BCFC and Waiariki Institute of Technology have an agreement where students from China who have gained a suitable qualification are able to gain the Bachelor of Tourism after eighteen months study at Waiariki. This was one of two reasons why I chose to study in Rotorua. The other reason was because of New Zealand's reputation as an established tourism destination. The fact that Rotorua is one of the two main tourist destinations in New Zealand made the idea of studying there even more attractive for me.The level of tutorial support is something what I remember vividly. My tutors were at all times helpful and always found the time to offer advice on matters such as assignments. As a result studying eighteen months for my degree at Waiariki was a very enjoyable and satisfying time.

I am currently employed at the Millennium Hotel in Rotorua as a night auditor. My responsibilities include balancing, adjusting and reconciling all daily transactions from the hotel's outlets (Mini Bar, Room Service, etc.) and preparing and distributing reports to the various departments within the hotel, customer service, reservations, and anything else required to ensure the night-time operation of the hotel.
