Waiariki Institute of Technology, established in 1978, is one of the largest tertiary institutes outside the university centres in New Zealand. The Institute has campuses in Mokoia, Taupo, Tokoroa, Whakatane. The Institute has a student population of around 9,000 of which 200 are international students. Vocational Studies are offered through the schools of business & tourism, computing, technology & communications, forestry, wood processing & biotechnology, nursing & health studies, trade training and te wananga a thenga.
