The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is an internationally renowned postgraduate medical school, established in 1899. The School is the largest institution of its kind in Europe, offering research and postgraduate education in public and global health. The School is part of the University of London. On successful completion of their studies, students gain a University of London degree.
Located in the heart of London, the School is home to almost 1051 students from over 100 countries. The School is one of the highest-rated research institutions in the UK. The School provides national and international focus in teaching and research in the areas pertaining to health. The courses are validated and assessed at regular intervals. The School was one of the very first institutions to undergo an institutional audit by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
The School has witnessed significant expansions in the recent years in research and distance learning programmes. Some of the excellent facilities available at the School are the library, wireless network, and computing facilities.
The School won the Gates Award for Global Health in 2009. The award was established by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to recognise organizations that have made an outstanding contribution to improving global health. The School is both the first academic institution to win the award and the first British winner.
