Founded in 1839, the University of Chester is one of the oldest institutions in the country. Currently, there are over 16,000 students undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on its two main campuses, Chester and Warrington. The University provides high-quality courses and the students continue to excel in many fields, from scholarship to national awards.

The University of Chester is a public institution and as such, it is reviewed and audited on a regular basis by a number of government agencies. It is committed to maintaining high academic standards; in fact the quality of educational provision at the University of Chester has been praised by higher education watchdogs (QAA and OFSTED).

The university’s growth aspirations and pursuit of academic excellence is also reflected in the fact that a significant proportion of the University’s research has been acknowledged for its international quality following the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise.

The scope of research undertaken at the institution has increased dramatically over the last decade. From ‘hazard mapping' that could potentially save thousands of lives in the event of a tsunami, to the use of mathematical modeling to avoid the risk associated with experiments involving human subjects or in fragile ecosystems.
