The University of Surrey is an ambitious, research-intensive academic institution with undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes ranging from aerospace to English literature, from nursing to nuclear physics, from business to biochemistry. Its Faculties cover Engineering & Physical Sciences, Health & Medical Sciences, Arts & Human Sciences, Management, and Law.
The last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008) confirmed Surrey as one of world’s leading research centres, with 88% of the University’s research activity rated either 'world class' or 'internationally recognised'. Four areas of research activity were placed in the top ten, and a total of nine areas were ranked in the top 20. Notably in the 2008 RAE, 95% of the School of Biomedical & Molecular Sciences research was awarded top ratings, the highest of any UK University.
Surrey’s undergraduate programmes are also highly rated, with The Times Good University Guide 2012 ranking nine of its subject areas in the top ten, and 15 in the top 20. Ranked number 1 for Tourism and Hospitality in both The Times and The Guardian University Guide 2012, number 3 for Electronic Engineering (The Guardian), number 2 for Food Science, and number 3 for Sociology (The Times), “Surrey has been one of the recent success stories of the university world,” said The Times.
All students have the opportunity to enhance their career prospects by gaining impressive work experience with real employers through Surrey’s pioneering Professional Training programme. “If an unrivalled graduate employment record is what you are looking for, the University of Surrey is just the job,” said The Sunday Times University Guide 2010.
With more than 12,000 staff and students from around 140 countries including nearly 200 Indian students, the University of Surrey is a vibrant place to live and study. The pleasant, leafy, modern campus is set among gardens and a picturesque lake, all just a short walk from the centre of Guildford and 40 minutes by train from central London. Heathrow and Gatwick airports are also close by.
