Course summary The degree focuses on the period since 1860, with a particular emphasis on the 20th century and on an international dimension; some modules focus primarily on the relationship between states in examining issues of diplomacy, and of war and peace; other modules describe the process of state making and its relationship to the wider international setting; students can focus on certain geographical areas, such as Europe, Africa, South Asia or the Americas and compare and contrast the development of individual states and their societies; from the 1st year module on historical methods and approaches, to the final year project on a topic of particular interest, students build their historical knowledge and skills to a high level.
