This course is designed for professionals who wish to improve their dispute resolution and, in particular, negotiation skills. It integrates practice with the growing body of research and theoretical work. It provides practical mediation training at a high level leading to a postgraduate qualification. Although the theory underpinning all forms of mediation practice is similar, the most important mediation types will be dealt with separately including commercial, employment, family and community. Negotiation theories and tactics, which are important in the practice of mediation, will also be covered extensively. The course is suited to those who wish to qualify as mediators and will appeal to anyone with an interest in mediation.
Students would normally be expected to have an undergraduate degree (or the equivalent). Applicants who do not meet this requirement may still be admitted to the course if, at the discretion of the course leader, s/he has sufficient industry experience, when combined with non-degree level educational qualifications, to be exempt from the usual undergraduate degree rule.
